IPOH: Police have re-arrested another 26 illegal immigrants who escaped from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot today.
Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that 131 illegal immigrants escaped from the depot on Friday and as of today, 86 of them had been recaptured, while two of them died in road accidents.
Mohd Yusri in a statement today said that police and the Immigration Department were intensifying efforts to locate the remaining 43 illegal immigrants who were still on the loose.
"On today's arrest, 26 Rohingya ethnics were picked up at KM326.2 of the North-South Expressway (northbound), Tapah (south) R&R, squatter house at Felcra Sungai Gempel Bidor, Kampung Orang Asli Kenoh, Post Woh Jalan Pahang and Kampung Batu Melintang Tapah," he said.
Mohd Yusri also called on the people to cooperate in tracking the remaining escapees and not to make any speculation about the case.
Yesterday, Mohd Yusri said that police would not expand the search radius for the remaining illegal immigrants who escaped from the depot, as they were still in the Tapah district.
This was based on the interrogation of all illegal immigrants who had been recaptured; the rest of their "friends" had not left Tapah.
On Feb 2, police confirmed that 131 illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Rohingya ethnics escaped from the depot.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi said that there was a riot incident inside the male block depot, and all the detainees managed to flee the facility.
