PASIR GUDANG: A nine-month pregnant woman was killed when the car she was traveling in is believed to have hit a pothole before crashing into an electrical panel box on the Pasir Gudang Highway here on Sunday
The deceased 28-year-old is identified as Kavisha Saravanan.
It is learnt a postmortem-caesarean-section was conducted to deliver Kavisha's unborn baby.
The infant is currently fighting for its life in the Sultan Ismail Hospital's intensive care unit.
Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident occurred when a 30-year-old woman at the wheels of a Honda Civic, lost control of her vehicle and crashed onto the electrical panel box on the highway shoulders at 12.40am.
Kavisha was sitting in the passenger seat of the car. Mohd Sohaimi said she was rushed to the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI), but succumbed to here injuries there.
The women were heading towards Pasir Gudang, and it was raining when the accident occurred.
Mohd Sohaimi said the driver, who sustained minor injuries is currently seeking medical attention at the same hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for reckless or dangerous driving that caused death.
Meanwhile, Facebook account holder Puven Rajandran took to his account, questioning the RM5.2 million recently spent by the Works Ministry on road repair works carried out along the Pasir Gudang Highway between Aug and Oct last year.
He claimed the driver was attempting to evade a pothole along the highway when the car skidded before crashing into the panel box.
Police however, did not acknowledge nor deny the claim.
"The tragic accident is a consequence of the routine-act of evading potholes on the highway on a rainy night," read the post.
He also tagged the Johor crown prince in the post, pleading for Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to look into the matter to ensure that another family will not go through the pain of losing a child or a loved family member.
Puven also claimed that a postmortem-caesarean-section was conducted to deliver Kavisha's unborn baby.
"The child fights for its life in the (HSI) intensive care unit," read the post.
