KOTA BARU: The state government has welcomed the Federal government's move to introduce the national Central Database System (Padu).
Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said Padu which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday, would benefit the people as well as the state governments.
"Two days ago, l attended the launch of Padu by the Prime Minister.
"Through this system, l was informed that the federal government is expected to be able to save costs about RM 4 billion a year in the electricity sector alone.
"The data can identify the profile of the people to enable government's subsidies to be channelled to eligible citizens only.
"Not to the high income groups, foreigners and immigrants.
"I am confident and believe that the goal of Kelantan Digital Economy Action Plan 2024 launched today is very much in line with the goal which will be achieved through Padu," he said.
Nassuruddin said this in his New Year message to all the state civil servants here today.
During the programme, he also launched the State Digital Economy Action Plan 2024.
Present were deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan and Kelantan State Secretary Datuk Nazran Muhammad.
Dr Fadzli praised the federal government's decision to introduce Padu.
"Of course, there will be issues raised by certain individuals but for me, it is not a problem as the systems can still be improved," he added.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister said the database would ensure there are no leakages in the distribution of aid.
However, he said Malaysians themselves will play a crucial role in ensuring that aid is not distributed to those who do not need it.
Meanwhile, Mohd Nassuruddin said the Kelantan Digital Economy Action Plan has been divided into several sector which includes agriculture and mining.
"In the agriculture sector, the state government will encourage adoption of smart agriculture, new technology, blockchain and CCTV.
"We will also create more local digital platforms to enable access to the digital market and increase the adoption of digital technology in agriculture," he added.
