SIBU: With Chinese New Year fast approaching, the Saberkas Pelawan Chinese New Year Carnival is set to bring warmth and excitement to the festive celebrations in Sibu.

As reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the carnival, which spans ten days from Jan 25 to Feb 4, combines tradition and modernity, offering a dynamic experience for residents and visitors alike.

Sarawak Public Health and Housing deputy minister Michael Tiang heralded the event as not only a festive highlight but also an excellent opportunity for young entrepreneurs to showcase their business acumen. The carnival aims to provide a platform for these budding entrepreneurs, allowing them to dip their toes into the vibrant marketplace of the Chinese New Year.

"This is a fun and healthy way for the people of Sibu to celebrate Chinese New Year without spending too much money or time on travelling," he said while inaugurating the carnival behind CCK Local, Sungai Merah, on Saturday.

The event is expected to integrate traditional Chinese New Year customs with contemporary elements, creating a unique and inclusive celebration for everyone in Sibu. Michael emphasised the importance of this cultural fusion, stating that it presents a fresh and engaging take on the traditional Chinese New Year festivities.

Highlighting the significance of youth participation, Michael encouraged the younger generation to engage actively in community events like the Saberkas Pelawan Chinese New Year Carnival. He praised the energy and creativity of the youth, acknowledging their crucial role in the success of such events.

As the chairman of Saberkas Pelawan, Michael extended his deepest gratitude to all individuals, particularly the spirited youth, who have contributed tirelessly to the success of the carnival.
