IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has appointed Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal to lead a cluster committee under the Special Meeting of the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL).

Anwar made the announcement while meeting the public at the Madani Sales of Wet and Dry Food Items, where he also had a light breakfast at Klebang Restu field today.

"Today, I am with my friend, Bukit Gantang MP, Syed Abu Hussin, to work on this initiative to cope with the increased cost of living. Our efforts are not enough if we can't control the price of items.

"We have Rahmah Sales, and today, I see the price of fish, chicken, and rice are far better and cheaper compared to the market price.

"But we need to have more initiatives, and that is why I have assigned Bukit Gantang MP to help the people by coordinating (leading) NACCOL.

"So today, I can confirm that he will lead NACCOL and add more initiatives so that Madani Sales can be improved and expanded in the country," he said in his speech.

Also present were Syed Abu Hussin and Perak State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.

On Nov 28 last year, Syed Abu Hussin declared his support for Anwar in Dewan Rakyat.

During the Prime Minister's Question Time then, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmaker expressed his readiness to help the government establish its initiatives, including tackling the rising cost of living.

He is the fifth PN member to declare his support for the Prime Minister and the government.

On Nov 9, last year Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz said he would support the unity government and the prime minister if his request for funding for the constituency was granted.

The Bersatu lawmaker said he wanted to see "to what extent the Madani government is fair in granting requests".

On Oct 3 last year, three Consideration Papers and two Notice Papers were tabled at the NACCOL meeting to further discuss measures to alleviate the cost of living burden faced by the people.

Anwar said among the issues discussed during the meeting were related to the price of round chicken and eggs; access to medicine at competitive prices; and possible disruption of sugar supply.

On Anwar's visit to Klebang Restu field, he also spent half an hour visiting several booths.

The sales of Madani food items started from 8am until 12pm today.

Attendees were also served with the Buffet Madani, which was priced at RM5. Once paid, they could choose various menus such as roti canai, ayam masak merah, fried noodles, macaroni fried, and so on.
