PUTRAJAYA: The pre-school curriculum will be streamlined and standardised under the Education Ministry soon.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said this matter was discussed and agreed during the cabinet meeting earlier.
"Prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) mentioned this.
"There have been numerous complaints by parents who said the quality varied between kindergartens including the curriculum.
"We want to ensure there is access for the people, especially for the low-income group, so that their education is of quality and the curriculum can be standardised to ensure the educational aspects are streamlined," he told a Press conference at the ministry today.
Fahmi said that the religious curriculum would also be standardised under the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to ensure the quality of education could be aligned.
He said further details would be announced by the Education Ministry.
Among the government-run preschools are Community Development Department (Kemas) Tabika, under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and Taska (nurseries) under the Woman, Family and Community Development Ministry.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was reported as saying that Malaysia's failure to move forward in many areas including in education was the failure of some quarters to acknowledge existing flaws.
He said the country's performance in the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2022 was an example of how this had affected its position in the global ranking.
