LIMBANG: Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah has identified the road near Limbang Airport leading to Brunei Bay as having significant potential to become a new tourism hotspot in Northern Sarawak, according to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

Hasbi said the three-kilometre stretch, close to picturesque Brunei Bay and the striking Brunei Bridge, is considered ideal for development as a tourist destination. With only 600 metres to the coastline, the deputy minister shared his vision of the route becoming a scenic tourist road.

In the report, Hasbi called upon state agencies such as the Northern Regional Development Agency (NRDA) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to connect and enhance this road's function as a tourist attraction.

"When it reaches the end, this road will be diverted to the right a little along the 'coast line' and that is the origin of our plan.

"So this will be a tourist spot, we will see Brunei Bay, and God willing, in the future if there are developers who want to build chalets and so on in this area the scenery is very beautiful," he was quoted as saying during a media briefing at the NRDA Road Projects site in the Limbang Parliament area.

The Limbang member of parliament also suggested that the area could see the opening of new shops, stalls, and homestays, contributing to local economic development and tourism.

NRDA has proposed a plan to the government for extending the road by an additional 600 metres, with an estimated cost of over RM10 million, highlighting the investment needed to bring this vision to fruition.
