SUNGAI PETANI: The siblings from Taman Pahlawan who were orphaned when their parents were killed in an accident here last week will be receiving monthly benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Kedah Socso director Rak Boon Tan Rat said the four children will be getting monthly benefits of RM1,340 until they reach the age of 21.

"On behalf of Sosco, today we presented RM4,000 cash funeral management benefit following the couple's passing.

"Four of the children who are aged below 21 will be getting the monthly benefit of RM1,340 until they reach the age of 21. If they further their studies, the benefit will be extended until they completed their first-degree studies," she said after presenting the cash aid to the siblings at their home here today.

Present were Sungai Petani member of parliament Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari and officers from the Kuala Muda District Education Office.

During the visit, Taufiq extended his condolences to the five siblings for their tragic loss and pledged to look after their need.

"I wish to thank Socso, the Kuala Muda District Education Office, Zakat Kedah and all parties that have stepped forward to ease the children's burden.

"My service centre will provide necessary assistance such as food baskets and so on. We will make sure that the children will be getting any help needed, especially on their education," he said.

On Thursday, the children's parents Mohd Norzianal Mohd Ainol, 46, and Suhana Othman, 43, were killed when their Duke KTM motorcycle crashed into an electric pole near the Kuala Muda police headquarters.

The couple had been out to buy dinner for their children when Norzianal was believed to have lost the control of the machine in a bid to evade a wild boar.

Meanwhile, their eldest child, Fatin Hanani, 23, thanked all the agencies and parties who had extended help to ease their burden.

Fatin said her youngest sibling, Adib Ieman, 8, was still coming to terms with the sudden loss of their parents.

"He is still longing for our parents. Before going to bed, Adib will be clinging to my parents' pillow.

"Adib is hoping to visit KLCC again soon, because he still remembers vividly his last trip to Kuala Lumpur with our parents several weeks ago," said the Universiti Sains Malaysia student.
