KUALA LUMPUR: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) OKU Sentral continues to provide strong support for Palestine while urging an immediate halt to the Palestinian genocide committed by Israel, now in its 99th day.

OKU Sentral founder Senator (R) Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi said the tragic toll of over 20,000 lives lost in the Israel-Gaza conflict, combined with the fate of thousands who are missing, displaced, and facing dire conditions, requires an urgent solution and peace.

"We also need to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the severely affected population of Gaza.

"The solidarity shown by OKU Sentral is evidence of humanity and the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza," she said at the Global Day of Action For Gaza Ceasefire Advocacy organised by OKU Sentral.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also present as an honoured guest, along with representatives from the Palestinian embassy and Palestinian citizens.

Meanwhile, Mahathir in his speech expressed concern about the ongoing consequences of the conflict in Gaza.

He mentioned that the United States' refusal to support a ceasefire has resulted in the loss of innocent Palestinian lives.

"Israel's objective to destroy Hamas raises serious humanitarian concerns because the inhumane nature of these attacks puts the lives of all Palestinians at risk.

"This ongoing cycle of violence must be stopped, and a lasting solution must be found soon.

"I hope that diplomatic efforts and a fair and peaceful resolution can be achieved for all those affected by this conflict," he said.

In the latest development of the Palestine-Israel conflict, South Africa, which filed the lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in December, asked judges on Thursday to impose emergency measures ordering Israel to immediately halt the offensive.

It said Israel's aerial and ground offensive - which has laid waste to much of the narrow coastal enclave and killed more than 23,000 people according to Gaza health authorities - aimed to bring about "the destruction of the population" of Gaza.
