KOTA TINGGI: The body of a missing 49-year-old Singaporean was found some 5km away off Desaru Coast in Bandar Penawar, near here, today.

The victim, identified as Isaac Kelvin Tan Lee Thong, was found at 5.30am by holiday-makers at the beach resort.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported the victim was feared to have drowned after he went missing at 12.33pm, while his 16-year-old son Gabriel Tan Way Ping who encountered difficulties while swimming was rescued and rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora advised holiday-makers planning visits to coastal areas for water-based recreational activities to postpone their plans.

"Red-flags that serve as warnings against water-based recreational activities have been erected.

"Police patrolling units regularly monitored Desaru Coast public beaches and had loudspeaker warnings to avoid swimming and water-related activities due to the northeast monsoon season that caused rough sea conditions with strong waves and undercurrents, were dispersed," he said.

The warning aligns with the directive issued by the local municipal authorities to suspend beach-related activities until further notice.
