RANTAU PANJANG: The embankment of the Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) at Sungai Golok in Kampung Lanchang has collapsed due to strong currents yesterday morning.

Kelantan Drainage and Irrigation Department acting director Marinamarican Abdullah said the collapsed embankment had a width of 20m

"We received information that the PLSB project embankment collapsed yesterday morning due to the increased water level at Sungai Golok.

"The embankment was only about 10m high, while the water level of Sungai Golok reached 11.03 metres yesterday.

"At the same time, the strong current caused the embankment near Kampung Lanchang to collapse. So far, we have only observed the embankment through a viral video as our officers have not been able to reach the site due to the continuing strong currents," she explained when contacted by Berita Harian.

Yesterday, the water level of Sungai Golok reached its highest level in nine years, recording a reading of 11.03m.

The highest recorded water level of Sungai Golok so far was 10.84 metres in 2014.
