KUALA LIPIS: Corporal Mohd Azman Mat Yaacob discovered the heartbreaking reality that his wife, Nor Faizah Ridzuan, had been killed in a car crash after noticing her live location on WhatsApp remained stationary.

Mohd Azman, attached with the Petaling Jaya police station in Selangor, said he became worried when repeated checks on his smartphone revealed no movement in Nor Faizah's real-time location.

Despite attempts to contact her and their eldest son, Muhammad Hariz Adrian, 10, through WhatsApp, his efforts were met with silence.

His instincts were right when, at about 4am today, he received a call from the Lipis district police informing him that Nor Faizah, 34, along with Muhammad Hariz Adrian and their youngest son, Muhammad Hafiy, three, had tragically lost their lives in a collision with a trailer.

"I never thought it would be our last meeting before midnight when we left the house together.

"My wife and sons were returning to Kampung Tawang in Bachok, Kelantan, while I went to work," he told Bernama when met at the Kuala Lipis Hospital Forensic Department today.

Mohd Azman said despite initial plans for the family to stay in the village until the end of the month due to school holidays, circumstances led to Nor Faizah's decision to embark on the journey late at night.

This marked her first long journey, and Mohd Azman allowed it as they had been unable to visit the village for an extended period.

Kuala Lipis district police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noo confirmed the fatal incident, saying that the Perodua Alza carrying the family collided with a trailer at KM 17 of the Jalan Lipis-Benta in Penjom, near Kuala Lipis, resulting in their tragic deaths due to severe head and body injuries.

"The incident at 2.25am is believed to have occurred when she lost control of the car when navigating a bend, causing it to enter the opposite lane and collide with the trailer," Azli said, adding that

Mohd Azman shared that the remains of his wife and children will be laid to rest in a single grave at the Pintu Gerbang Muslim Cemetery in Bachok today.

Nor Faizah's younger sister, Nor Fitrah, recounted her last moments with Muhammad Hariz Adrian through two video calls, expressing his excitement about returning to the village.

The first call was made before their journey commenced, and Nor Fitrah's unease heightened as the night progressed. Her attempts to contact Nor Faizah proved futile, leading to the tragic confirmation received around 4am.

"The first call was before they started the journey. I felt uneasy afterwards because it was already late at night, so I contacted Hariz (my nephew) about 10 minutes later.

"I advised my sister to drive carefully because it was dark and there were many lorries, but she did not respond... maybe she was focusing on driving," she said. — Bernama
