CYBERJAYA : Twenty two people received prizes during this year's Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) Excellence Awards for volunteerism.

A statement from the commission said they were selected from a total of 1,579 volunteers nationwide based on their achievements on volunteer projects related to information and communication technology (ICT).

There were six category of awards honouring excellence in Malaysian ICT Volunteerism in Schools; Community Teams; Individual Achievement in a Community; Higher Education Institutions; International Volunteers; and a Special Award.

Azharul Faiz Zainal Abidin from SK Bagan Serai, Perak was named the Overall Best Volunteer of the awards when he won two awards: the Excellence Award in the Malaysian ICT Volunteerism in the Schools Category and the Superstar Award for the special category.

"Also receiving awards in the Schools category were Tan Ke Sin and Jessica James Sikain," it said.

The Felda Soeharto Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) in Selangor; Kampung Makmur PEDi in Perak; and Semambu PEDi in Pahang won the top prizes for the Community Teams category.

"The Individual Achievement in the Community award went to Sahpiah Adam.

Three representatives from PEDi Sungai Haji Doraini, Selangor namely Siti Hazirah Mohd Idris, Nurul Hamizah Samsuri,and NursyuhadaNasruddi also won another prize for Best Content.

Each recipient received cash prizes, trophies, and certificates of excellence.
