KOTA KINABALU: The implementation of rights under Sabah and Sarawak Affairs is the only thing that matters, said Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He was commenting on the new federal cabinet reshuffle, which saw the omission of the Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions portfolio

Under the previous cabinet lineup, the Sabah, Sarawak Affairs, and Special Functions portfolio was held by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

The new cabinet lineup sees Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof would shoulder the responsibility for the affairs of Bornean states.

"It is not just about setting up a ministry or a committee (about Sabah and Sarawak affairs), but it is about execution.

"We have said it many times; it is not about having discussions here and there, but just fulfilling the existing agreement, which is not just about the percentage (of special grants and net revenue) but also about the state administration, languages, and others," Shafie told reporters after launching the party's annual general meeting at Hakka Hall here.

The former chief minister also said that he was hoping that Fadillah would do his job well in looking after the rights of Sabah and Sarawak.

He added that there are 25 members of parliament from Sabah, but only two were made federal ministers.

"To me, performance is more important. The priorities should be on roads, water supply, education, and ensuring the voices of people are heard.

"We do not want ministers who come from Sabah, brought (originating summons) to the court and withdrew it.

"Such a fight is not for the people of Sabah but for positions and personal interest."

On Sept 20, 12 Pakatan Harapan elected representatives withdrew their originating summons against the federal government and the Sabah state government.

They were seeking a court order that the federal government recognizes and delivers Sabah's constitutional rights for Sabah to receive special grants amounting to two-fifths of the federation's net revenue derived from Sabah.
