JOHOR BARU: A six-year-old girl who was separated from her parents while they were shopping at Bazar Karat, here, yesterday, was reunited with her parents after police found her wandering alone.

The girl, Nur Zara Mikayla Muhammad Hilmi, went missing about 12.17am.

When she was unable to find her parents, she decided to cross the road near the flea market, to head towards their parked car, which could have led to a disaster, as she was not looking out for traffic.

Police on regular crime prevention patrol noticed the child and went to her aid, as she had crossed the road alone.

The girl was then taken to the Central police station.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed the girl was reunited with her parents, at about 2am.

Meanwhile her mother, Nor Umiza Syazwani Zulkifli, 34, an IVF nurse in a private hospital, took to her Facebook account -WanNiey HerMione (MieZa) to share her harrowing experience.

She said she decided to sleep in the car, while her husband took their daughter with them to the flea market.

However, she later received a phonecall from her husband, telling her that he could not find their daughter.

The panic-stricken mother called her family members to help search for the missing girl, including in the back alleys and drains, fearing the worst.

After searching in vain for about an hour, they checked with the flea market traders, who told them that police officers had taken the girl to the police station.

"My anxiety, kicked in, but the traders convinced me that the flea market was a safe area, even if one lost their keys, it could be found," she posted.

At the police station, they were relieved to see their daughter sleeping soundly.

When contacted, Nor Umiza Syazwani expressed her utmost gratitude to the policeman identified only as Amir, and his team members for assisting them.

She said the professionalism and efficiency displayed by police and officers on duty, was truly appreciated.

As a token of appreciation, the parents delivered packs of food to the officers on duty.

She also advised parents to always keep a copy of their children's official documents with them always, as it had made the identification process much easier.
