RANTAU PANJANG: Kelantan flood victims praised the move to introduce a special card called 'Kad PPS' (flood relief centre card) to help distribute food aid to the victims.

Housewife Asiah Rani said she received her card when she registered at SK Gual Tinggi flood relief centre two days ago.

"For me, this is a good move by the state welfare department as the card ensures that the aid is being distributed equally.

"The authorities at the relief centre will also know which item we (the flood victims) had obtained and which we haven't received," said the 64-year-old.

The mother of four from Kampung Parit Air here said she and her husband Mohamad Salleh, 62, would bring the card to the authorities whenever they need their daily necessities.

Another flood victim Ramli Mohamad Nor, 67, said he would share the card with his wife Rokiah Ismail,71, while they were at the flood relief centre.

"I was told that this card is important for all flood victims.

"We need to show this card to the officers who are handling the centre if we need daily aid such as blankets and other necessities," said the father of four from Kampung Bakat.

Last month, the state Kelantan Welfare Department came up with its own initiative by introducing 'Kad PPS' to flood victims in the state.

The introduction of the card was to ensure that food aid and other necessities were distributed equally to flood victims.

The initiative makes the Kelantan Welfare Department the first in the country to introduce the card.

The department's director Said Sidup said that they began to distribute the card to the heads of households who were evacuated to flood relief centres last month.
