GUA MUSANG: A tiger's roar sent shivers down the spines of a mother and her son as they were harvesting cassava in their garden two days ago in Kampung Batu Papan.
Farmer Sufiah Yahya, 58, and her son, Che Muhammad Hawari Che Noh, 30, were digging cassava to sell to customers when the incident happened around 11am.
According to Sufiah, encountering such incidents twice has caused her to be afraid to go to the garden alone.
She said she had never encountered such an incident since she moved to the village over 30 years ago.
"The roar of the tiger was loud and clear, making it seem like it (the tiger) was around where I was pulling out cassava.
"The first roar was around 11 am, and the second incident was at 3 pm. I feared something unwanted might happen, so I asked my son to report it to the authorities.
"The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) came in the afternoon two days ago to inspect the situation in the garden," she said when met.
Sufiah said she is afraid to go to the garden alone, even though it is only about 200 meters from her house.
"Considering the high demand for cassava, I have to go to the garden with my son to dig cassava.
"In our 2.4-hectare garden, various crops are planted, including cassava, bananas, and rubber. Perhilitan advised us to go to the garden in groups," she said.
Earlier, there were reports of the appearance of a striped tiger in several areas around Gua Musang near this town.
These areas include Kampung Batu Papan, Kampung Subong, Kampung Sungai Terah, and the Kesedar Sejahtera Local Community Placement Project (PPMS).
There has also been an incident of a tiger devouring a cow in Kampung Kundur.
Yesterday, it was reported that a plantation worker was killed by a tiger on a rubber plantation in Kampung Kuala Tol.
