KOTA KINABALU: There are eight cardiologists serving at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital here, said state Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib.

He said the specialised cardiology services cater for adults and children, which include procedures such as cardiothoracic surgeries, cardiothoracic anaesthesia and reperfusion services.

"Additionally, there are eight medical specialists who have joined the adult cardiology subspecialty training programme, and one cardiothoracic anesthesiology and reperfusion specialist undergoing training as a sub-specialist.

"The Health Ministry has also agreed with the proposal and plans to expand cardiology services to the east coast of Sabah by initiating cardiology services at Tawau Hospital and the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan, through the 12th Malaysia Plan, Rolling Plan 4," he said during his winding-up speech at state assembly sitting here.

He also said that his ministry has established a Committee for Coordinating Hospital and Clinic Issues to discuss the healthcare needs and services in Sabah, including health clinics, hospitals, medical specialists, and others.

James, who chaired the committee, said other members are directors of the Sabah State Health Department, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and Sabah Women and Children's Hospital.

Meanwhile, Sabah Rural Development minister Datuk Jahid Jahim said as his ministry is in charge of special allocation for state assemblymen, he would ensure lawmakers would get their funding.

"The allocations are for the implementation of small rural projects and to provide assistance in the welfare aspects to the people they represent at the grassroots level.

"For this purpose, the state government has allocated RM110 million for the year 2024."

Jahid also said that the ministry has earmarked an initial allocation of RM14 million to be used for the poverty alleviation programme.
