KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Gantang member of parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal has announced his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Dewan Rakyat today.

During Prime Minister Question Time this morning, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmaker said he was ready to help the government establish in its initiatives, including tackling the rising cost of living, among others.

"I am ready to help the government build a Madani community to tackle the rising cost of living.

"With this, Bukit Gantang declares its support to Tambun as Prime Minister and the Madani government," he said.

He is the fifth PN member to declare his support for the Prime Minister and the government.

Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz also urged Anwar's predecessors, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to come together for the sake of the country.

He said opposition members of parliament should negotiate in the "best possible manner" in getting funding for their constituencies.

"Pagoh (Muhyiddin) and Bera (Ismail Sabri) as former prime ministers should help Tambun to build the Madani community.

"Enough, let's not argue. 'Carik-carik bulu ayam, lama lama bercantum jua' (No matter how you ruffle chicken feathers, in the end they stick together).

"The threat to the country is not colonisers nor communists, but it is any threat to our unity," he said.

Earlier, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz asked Anwar about the government's hopes in the Madani government concept in encouraging unity among MPs and to develop the country together.

In response, Anwar welcomed his decision to support the government and said there was always room for anyone to conduct discussions.

"Thank you for openly supporting me. We are always ready to discuss not just in terms of the allocation for funding coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadhillah Yusof, but also to hear constructive criticism."

On Nov 9, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz said he would support the unity government and the prime minister if his request for funding for the constituency was granted.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) lawmaker said he wanted to see "to what extent the Madani government is fair in granting requests".

Previously, four federal lawmakers from the PN coalition— Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) — declared their support for the Madani government.

The four MPs declared their support on the basis of receiving allocations to prioritise the well being of their constituents.
