Two rivers in Kelantan have breached their danger levels today following heavy rain since last night. - NSTP/ SHARIFAH MAHSINAH ABDULLAH

KOTA BARU: Two rivers in Kelantan have breached their danger levels today following heavy rain since last night.

The rivers are the Kelantan river in Kota Baru and the Golok river in Tumpat.

As at 6.45pm, the Kelantan river was measured at 1.87m which is 0.02m above its danger mark of 1.85m.

The Golok river in Tumpat was recorded at 3.16m which is 0.66m above its danger level of 2.50m.

The other Golok river in Rantau Panjang was recorded at 8.75m which is 0.75m above its warning level of 8m.

Number of flood victims continued to increase with 699 currently taking shelter at four relief centres in two districts.

The 699 who were from 195 families, have been evacuated in stages since flood hit Kelantan last Sunday.

SK Jelawat relief centre recorded the highest with 354 victims, followed by SK Tok Deh (222), SMK Beris Panchor (67) and SK Kedai Tanjong (56).

The flood in Kelantan has so far claimed its first victim – an 18-month-old boy who drowned at Kampung Kenali here, today.
