KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's efforts to vocalise Malaysia's stance on geopolitics, humanitarian issues and economic cooperation at the international level is a progressive and strategic approach for the country.

Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Farhan Fauzi said Anwar's approach during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting in San Francisco would not only bolster the nation's economic stability but also position the country as a vocal advocate for humanitarian issues on the global stage.

According to him, it is expected that Anwar's endeavours will result in substantial achievements for the nation and apply pressure on major global powers to acknowledge and attend to these urgent humanitarian issues, with a particular focus on the Palestinians.

"In positioning Malaysia as a progressive nation, Anwar did not opt to boycott meetings with international figures but instead leveraged and maximised international platforms to openly voice out Malaysia's stance, even in the presence of US President Joseph Biden.

"Simultaneously, opportunities to engage with foreign leaders were maximised to enhance strategic cooperation in economic, health, education, and technology sectors, aiming to benefit the country and its people.

"This was evident when the Prime Minister announced that the cumulative trade and investment mission to the US successfully generated Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments amounting to RM63.02 billion and reached an export potential valued at RM2.78 billion from Malaysia," he said in a Facebook post.

The Malaysian delegation led by the Prime Minister, had succeeded in generating commitments in trade and investment during discussions with tech giants including Google, Microsoft, TikTok, and TPG, totaling RM54.72 billion over 10 to 15 years.

This also includes FDI amounting to RM8.3 billion from various companies such as Abbot Laboratories, Mondelez International, Amsted Rail, and others, earmarked for aerospace, chemical, pharmaceutical, EV battery technology, healthcare equipment, public services, and logistics sectors.

The delegation also managed to secure export commitments with a potential export value of RM2.78 billion from corporations such as Canadian Tire Corporation, Global Agri Trade Corporation, and Unigen Corporation to foster economic cooperation between both entities.
