KOTA BARU: All agencies and elected representatives in Kelantan have been ordered to take all measures necessary to assist residents in their respective areas following continuous rain since Sunday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the Drainage and Irrigation and Department (DID) has also forecast floods caused by overflowing river.

"If the current weather pattern persists in Kelantan, DID expects more areas will hit by floods.

"The water level of rivers like Sungai Golok and Sungai Jawi in Pasir Mas as well as Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Semerak in Pasir Puteh have shown an increase.

"Therefore, l urge Kelantan people to be aware of the weather conditions. Follow the authorities' instructions - especially any directive to evacuate, monitor the safety of family members, children and the elderly.

"Let us all pray to Allah for our safety and well-being, and that our state is protected from major flooding," he said in a statement.

The first round of floods in Kelantan started today with a total of 321 victims forced to take shelters at six relief centres in three districts.

The figure was recorded as at 9.30pm tonight in three affected districts - Pasir Puteh, Bachok and Machang.

The relief centres include SK Wakaf Raja, SK Sungai Petai and SK Pak Roman.
