KUALA NERUS: A nasi lemak seller was unable to finish selling her food before floodwater engulfed her home in Taman Uda Kampung Tok Jembal, here this morning.

Zarina Zainuddin, 44, said it was her routine to wake up at 4am to pack nasi lemak for the day for her customers.

She said that at the time, the situation appeared to be under control despite the heavy rain and water had yet to enter her house.

"Before I began packing the nasi lemak, I saw that the water in the drain outside my house was beginning to fill up.

"However, as I was packing the food, I realised that water had begun entering the house. It eventually rose to knee level.

"Normally, I would be able to complete 400 packets of nasi lemak. Today, I only managed to do half of that.

"I took the rest to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) to be distributed to flood victims," she said when met at the Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tok Jembal here.

Zarina said she would usually send her nasi lemak to restaurants and stalls in Kampung Tok Jembal, Kampung Tok Jiring and Kampung Mengabang Telipot.

She said the water rose so quickly that her husband and children were unable to move items such as their sofa and electrical equipment to safety in time.

She said this was the first time floods had hit her home since living there for the last 15 years.

"I decided to bring the rest of my nasi lemak to the PPS to share them for free with the others," she said.
