KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Wildlife Department successfully captured a tiger near Pos Pasik, Gua Musang, today.

Its director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the tiger walked into a trap set up by the department, and it will soon be transported to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sungkai, Perak.

The operation was a continuation of the effort initiated after receiving a report of a man being mauled by a tiger at Pos Pasik on Oct 5.

"The department has launched an operation on Oct 6 involving 10 rangers. Following the report, we have set up traps in the area."

Accessing Pos Pasik, said Hafid, required a three to four-hour journey using four-wheel-drive vehicles.

He hoped that the capture would bring relief to the community, especially those in Pos Pasik.

"Villagers in Pos Pasik need to be careful when going to their smallholding. They are advised to travel in groups and avoid going out alone," he said.

Hafid added the department was still investigating whether it was the same tiger involved in the previous mauling incident.

"We will continue the operation to capture the tiger that is still roaming the Orang Asli settlement."
