KUALA LUMPUR: A ruckus erupted in Dewan Rakyat today which caused two Members of Parliament (MPs) from the government and opposition bloc to be instructed to leave the house.

This comes after Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) and Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) argued over the issue of teachers being threatened for declaring support towards the opposition in schools.

Following this, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul instructed both of the MPs to leave the house for one day and continue to attend the session, tomorrow.

The commotion began when Mohd Misbahul during his debate session on the 2024 Supply Bill at the committee level claimed that the Islamic studies and moral education teachers were threatened for supporting the opposition during the elections.

The claims made by Mohd Misbahul, however, were criticised by Mohd Sany who said teachers should not engage in political activities within school compounds but could do so if they are outside of their duties.

"I agree (that teachers should not be threatened) but the issue now is that teachers are also engaged in political activities during school hours.

"It should be no problem if it is outside but it cannot be done inside (the school compound)," said Sany when interjecting Mohd Mishabul.

To this, Mohd Mishabul requested Johari to take action towards Mohd Sany as the latter had disturbed his debate session.

"I am not allowing you (to disturb my debate session) so please sit. I am so disappointed with you who does not respect the house's rules."

However, several MPs from the government bloc criticised Mohd Mishabul for making false claims and misleading statements in the house, including Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil who said the claims were false.

The commotion went over two minutes before Johari instructed both Mishabul and Mohd Say to leave the house.

"I ask both of you to leave the house, just for today and come back tomorrow," he said.
