KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organization (Perkeso) has received 357 applications for Employment Insurance System (SIP) benefits from MYAirline employees who were affected by the abrupt suspension of the carrier's operations.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said this follows a decision reached during a meeting between Socso and the top management of MYAirline to ensure the well-being and livelihood of the affected employees.

"The meeting also discussed the benefits of the SIP and employee profiling conducted by the Employment Services Officer for MYAirline staff.

"We have gathered information about MYAirline employees for processing SIP benefit applications, which will provide support for up to six months, ensuring the livelihood of their families," he said in a statement.

He added that Socso will continue to intensify its efforts to provide assistance, including benefit distribution, facilitating new job placements, and enhancing the skills of MYAirline employees.

"It is important for employers to ensure they made their part contributions to Socso for the benefit of their employees.

"Neglecting this responsibility could put the well-being of employees when job terminations occur at risk.

"We will look into the matter very seriously, particularly with employers who are unregistered and fail to contribute on behalf of their employees to Perkeso.

"Stringent measures will be enforced in cases of non-compliance," he said.

It was previously reported that Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar announced that Socso will come to the aid of more than 500 MYAirline.

This comes amid claims by some MYAirline employees that they have yet to be paid their September wages and that employer contributions to Socso and EPF have not been made since May.
