ARAU: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has announced its commitment to provide 25 special scholarships to Palestinian students studying at the university.

This is to ensure that Palestinian students can continue their education amidst the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"We (UniMAP) are offering 25 special scholarships for Palestinian students, including scholarships covering accommodation, tuition fees, and daily living expenses.

"We hope these scholarships will assist Palestinian students studying at UniMAP in pursuing their education more comfortably.

"Additionally, Palestinian students at UniMAP will also receive living allowances to ease their daily expenses alongside their studies," he stated in a press release today.

He made this announcement following a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof. Dr. Mohd Shukry Abd Majid and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dr. Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah.

He added that these scholarship aids are vital to address the initiative of providing support to Palestinian students currently studying at UniMAP.

"This bilateral discussion not only focuses on the financial aspect but also addresses the challenges faced by Palestinian students at UniMAP.

"We are not only committed to providing financial assistance but also to extend emotional and moral support to Palestinian students at UniMAP because we believe that education is the only path to shaping a better future, and we are ready to overcome any challenges faced by our students," he added.

Previously, the discussion also brought attention to the tragedy that befell one Palestinian student at UniMAP, who lost a family member, sparking concern and compassion from the university.
