KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds clad in white with black-and-white Palestinian chequered keffiyeh participated in a march protest near Masjid Tabung Haji on Jalan Tun Razak to condemn the lethal attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza.

The protest continued all the way to the United States Embassy to condemn the country's support for Israel's treatment of the occupied Palestinian territory over the past several decades.

The protest, organised by Sekretariat Palestine Malaysia (SPM) was also attended by notable figures such as former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed and former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

As they marched towards the embassy building, the participants continued to chant "Bebas Palestine," "Allahuakbar" and "Hancur Israel."

The area was partially cordoned off due to the protest.

Dr Mahathir said that Israel should be categorised as a terrorist group for the attack on the hospital in Gaza.

"They (Israel) broke international law and attacked a hospital.

"When Israel committed atrocities, they supported it. That is why we cannot accept the United States, Britain, and Europe as human rights defenders because they don't act like they are civilised," he said, as quoted in the Free Malaysia Today report.

Khairy also spoke out against the US support for Israel.

The organiser handed over a memorandum to the representative of the embassy and the protest ended around 3.30pm.

Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel on the dawn of Oct 7.

Thousands, including civilians, perished as a result of the ongoing conflict there.
