PEKAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has moved up significantly in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 (THE WUR 2024) ranking, from 801 to 1,000 last year to 601 - 801.

The university, formerly known as Universiti Malaysia Pahang retains its position as the eighth best in the country and remains the highest-ranked institution in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).

THE WUR 2024 which consists of 1,904 universities across 108 countries and territories will measure an institution's performance across five criteria's namely teaching (the learning environment), research environment (volume, income and reputation), research quality (research influence), industry (knowledge transfer), and international outlook (international staff, students and research collaborations).

UMP Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin said UMP is placed 611 in the world and fifth best in Malaysia for the research quality criteria.

"UMPSA continues to display improvement compared to the 801 - 1,000 rank last year and this latest feat helps the 21-year-old university to move in line with other prestigious higher learning institutions from around the globe.

"UMPSA is always committed towards bolstering innovations and creating uniqueness in offering academic programmes through its strategic partnerships at the international level.

The campus offers a variety of engineering and technology-based programmes focusing on high-end Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

"I would like to congratulate the people of UMPSA who have been always committed to creating innovations in research, strategic collaborations with industries and the internationalisation of academic programmes both locally, and abroad," he said in a statement today.

Universiti Malaya is the only Malaysian higher learning institution to be ranked among the top 251 - 300 in THE WUR 2024 followed by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (301-350).

In June this year, UMPSA was ranked in the range of 201 - 250 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2023 (THE Asia) and maintained the 301 - 400 range in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023.
