KUALA LUMPUR: After failing to pay rent and being served an eviction notice, a popular male singer from the 90s has been given extended stay by his landlord until Oct 31.

The landlord, Liza Mohamad, 46, stated that this decision was made after a meeting with officials from Baitulmal, who assured her that they would quickly find new accommodation for the singer and his family.

"After the news about my situation was published in Harian Metro, a representative from Baitulmal met with me to discuss the issue of the singer's overdue rent, as they wanted to help resolve it.

"However, the Baitulmal officials also requested that I give them some time to find new accommodation for the singer and asked for his permission to stay in my house until Oct 31," she told Harian Metro.

Liza explained that she understood the current situation of the singer and his family and felt it was a compassionate decision to grant temporary accommodation. But she requested that Baitulmal expedite the search for a new house.

When asked about the presence of the police at her house yesterday, Liza said that she was with the authorities to meet the singer for a cordial discussion.

"Through mutual agreement and with the four police reports that I have filed, the singer was instructed to vacate my house as of tomorrow. However, with the joint consent of Baitulmal, I have given him (the singer) the opportunity to stay in the house for a while longer until the requested date," she said.

Previously, Harian Metro reported that a woman had filed a police report against the singer, alleging that he had failed to settle outstanding rent of up to RM3,000 since June.

An eviction notice for the tenant had reportedly been issued and received by the singer's wife, but it had not been heeded, and they continued to reside in the house.
