MELAKA: A female trainee pilot faced a precarious and scary situation when she lost control of the Piper 28 aircraft that she was piloting while trying to land at the Melaka International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam at around noon today.

Melaka Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the incident involved a light trainer aircraft belonging to International Aero Training Academy Sdn Bhd (IATAC) at 12.16pm.

"Based on the report, the aircraft with the registration number 9M-ITQ was piloted by the 23-year-old woman during a training flight.

"While attempting to land, the trainee pilot is said to have temporarily lost control of the aircraft on runway RWY 21," he said.

According to Christopher, following the incident, the trainee pilot was rushed to Hospital Melaka for further medical examination and follow-up treatment.

"However it was reported that the trainee pilot did not sustain any injury apart from having chest pain due to the hard landing.

"The aircraft was removed from the location of the incident at 12.50pm," he said.
