KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department has detained 425 foreign nationals for various offences in a raid at three different flats in Taman Connaught, Cheras.

KL Immigration Department director Syamsul Badrin Mohshin said among the offences committed by the detainees aged eight to 54 years old are misusing passes or permits, overstaying, without identification cards and others.

"All of the detainees will be placed at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for follow-up actions. All of them will be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963," he said, adding that this raid is in conjunction with Ops Sapu.

In the 1am raid, 80 immigration officers checked a total of 600 local and foreign nationals and detained 378 male and 53 male foreigners.

Among them are those from Bangladesh (252), Myanmar (108), Indonesia (30), Nepal (20), Pakistan (7), Cambodia (5) and Philippines (2).

"We would always take action against complaints and information provided by the public and will not compromise with foreign nationals who illegally stay in Malaysia, misuse their passes, and conduct immoral activities in this country.

"Strict action will be taken towards those who protect or hire these illegal immigrants," he said.
