ALOR STAR: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub has passed away at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital tonight.
His daughter Fatihah Salahuddin announced the sad news on a posting on her Facebook account at 9.23pm.
Her posting read: "With sadness it is hereby informed that our head of family has passed away at 9.23pm, 23 July 2023".
Meanwhile, Salahuddin's press secretary, Syakirin Husnal, confirmed the passing of Salahuddin.
"With deep sorrow and sadness, it is informed that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub has passed away Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, on July 23, 2023 at 9.23pm.
"The body will be taken to his mother's home in Kampung Serkat (Kopi Tenggek), Tanjung Piai.
"The ministry will update on the arrangement soon," she said in a statement.
She said Salahuddin's family extended their heartiest appreciation to all parties for the prayers to him.
"His family also wished to thank all the doctors and the staff at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
"May his soul is placed with the righteous," she said in the statement.
Among leaders who have arrived earlier to visit him this evening were caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Agriculture and Food Security minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and other Parti Amanah Negara leaders.
Salahuddin Ayub had been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HSB after undergoing surgery to treat brain haemorrhage yesterday.
Salahuddin was rushed to the hospital at about 10.15pm Friday, after developing nausea and vomiting.
He had arrived in Kedah on Friday morning to attend several programmes prior to the incident.
