PERMAISURI: A driver to a member of parliament (MP) overtook a double line near Kampung Pak Kancil in Setiu because he was rushing to deliver Qurban meat to recipients.

This was what the 30-year-old man told police after he was summoned by them over the case of dangerous driving.

A video of his dangerous driving went viral on social media on Sunday. The incident happened at Km67 67 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru.

Setiu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Affandi Hussin said they have issued a summons on the driver yesterday (July 4).

"Investigations showed the driver overtook other vehicles at a lane with a double line because he wanted to reach his destination quickly to prevent the Qurban meat from going bad.

"We have issued a summons to the driver under rule R12(3)(A) LN167/59 for overtaking a double line," he said earlier today.

According to Affandi, the driver admitted to committing the offence and during the incident he was driving a Toyota Alphard belonging to his employer.

He said the vehicle was being driven from Kampung Gunong, Bachok in Kelantan towards Kampung Sungai Merak Dalam, Bangi, Selangor and was carrying about 50kg of Qurban meat.

"The Qurban meat was meant for distribution to residents at Kampung Sungai Merak Dalam, Bangi and the driver left Bachok at around 12pm on Sunday (July 2)," he said.

Earlier, police detected the viral video on Monday (July 3).
