AYER KEROH: Media Prima Bhd (MPB) has been appointed as the official media partner to promote the Visit Melaka Year 2024 campaign.

Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, said the choice of MPB to promote the tourism sector was to ensure that the campaign achieves its objective in drawing more tourists to the state next year.

"Based on discussions, we decided to appoint an official media partner to promote Visit Melaka Year 2024 and all its programmes and activities for next year.

"As such, we have agreed that Media Prima will become the official media for Visit Melaka Year 2024.

"Apart from cultural and arts events, we will also organise religious-based events, namely 'Program Melaka Berselawat' as we cannot forget that our foundation is grounded in respect, tradition, religion and culture," he said.

Ab Rauf said to enliven the festivities ahead of next year, the state government will launch Visit Melaka Year 2024 at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (Mitec) in Kuala Lumpur on July 14.

He said the Visit Melaka Year 2024 campaign will also obtain full cooperation from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

A total of 64 programmes and events are slated to take place until the end of this year to build up the excitement for Visit Melaka Year 2024.

Melaka Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture executive council member, Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, said 13 programmes are key tourism events in the run up to Visit Melaka Year 2024.

Among the events slated to take place this year include the Melaka International Muay Thai programme from July 29 to 30, as well as the Melaka Rickshaw Carnival 2023 on September 1 and 2.

Both events will take place in Banda Hilir, Melaka.

"This will be followed by a freshwater fish angling and cooking competition in Sungai Melaka on September 3, as well as the Melaka International Air Carnival at the Melaka International Airport from September 29 to October 3," he said in a statement.

Abdul Razak said the state government will also launch several tourism products in the near future.

"This will serve to realise the goal of drawing 18 million tourists in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024.

"The tourism products are in the pipeline and will be announced in due time," he said.
