KOTA KINABALU: When an express bus rear-ended a lorry while travelling from Semporna to Kota Kinabalu early this morning, two people were wounded, and 31 others escaped without any injuries.

It was learnt the incident happened along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau near Kampung Kapa, Tamparuli about 5am.

The injured were identified as Nursiq Rahim, 31, who sustained serious injuries and Kantie Amir, 29, who had minor injuries.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Department chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said rescuers received a distress call at 5.04am.

He said a team of nine firemen was deployed to the accident scene, and they immediately gave initial treatment to the injured.

"The two victims were then sent to the Tuaran Hospital for further treatment," he said, adding that the lorry driver escaped with no serious injuries.

Abdul Qawie said authorities were still investigating the cause of the accident.
