LANGKAWI: The National Defence Industry Policy Blueprint, which was supposed to be unveiled here this year, has been delayed due to a review.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the decision was made to get more input from stakeholders.

"We don't want to rush things. We want all the stakeholders involved, so we will engage them to get more detailed views.

"When the blueprint comes out, it is not just the government that will be involved, but the industry players. So, we want to ensure what we want to do will be a document that will be accepted by all quarters," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of 51 contracts between his ministry and local and foreign countries.

The blueprint, which will detail the direction of the defence industry in Malaysia, was to have been launched at the ongoing Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition 2023.

Mohamad said the blueprint would help Malaysia move towards self-reliance in the defence industry and the importance of this was why the ministry and government were reviewing it.

"This is why we are taking a closer look at things and want the input of all stakeholders. We want them to be involved in the formulation of the blueprint so that they will be able to subscribe to it when it comes out," he said.
