KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a baby boy found in a box with a note in front of a surau on Sunday morning has gone viral, with many expressing their sympathy and concern for the infant.

The note from the infant's parents read: "We apologise for not being able to raise Muhammad Arif due to economic reasons. We are asking anyone who can and is willing to raise him. We are very grateful for that."

The baby, believed to be less than 3 months old, was found wrapped in a blanket and left with a bottle of milk and its formula.

The TikTok clip of the baby has garnered 1.6 million views.

Some netizens expressed their sympathy, acknowledging the difficult decision made by the mother.

"We don't know how sad and painful it was for the mother to do that," said @haslinda8000.

"The parents has named the baby, which could only mean they had to resort to abandoning him due to hardship," Tengku Naura said.

Roziah Abd Razak wrote: "Dear baby, your parents did not abandon you but they just want the best for you. Bless you."

"If someone puts a baby in front of my house, I will be so grateful. I really want to have a baby," @bellafadzill commented.

"I've been married for a long time. I do not have any child yet. If I were the one that found the baby, I would take it," @aishahhaszainul wrote.

Meanwhile, some netizens commented on the high cost of living in Malaysia.

"The economy is killing us. Even though we do not feel like we can survive, we remain strong to face any hardship. It's better to live in the old days. Now all we want is to be modern but we suffer," said @farah.nazri99.
