SIBU: Sibu marine police seized smuggled diesel worth RM1.4 million from a cargo ship in waters off Tanjung Ensurai, Sungai Batang Rajang, here, on Friday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili said the seizure came about after a patrol boat team stopped and checked the cargo ship upon finding its crew acting suspiciously about 4pm.
"The team detained two local men and three foreigners aged between 34 and 67. Further checks on the ship turned up 200,000l of diesel for which the cargo ship crew did not have any documentation," he said in a statement.
Zulkipli said the seizure and those detained were handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further action.
"The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961," he said.
