SETIU: Four teenagers were seriously injured after their car was involved in an accident at Kilometer 72, Jalan Kampung Saujana to Kampung Fikri (Kampung Saujana) here, this morning.

The 9.45am collision caused the Honda Civic the teenagers were riding in to split into two.

Setiu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Afandi Hussin said the accident involved two vehicles – the Honda Civic occupied by the four teenagers, and a Proton Persona occupied by three passengers.

He said the incident happened when the Proton Persona was on its way from Besut to Merang, Setiu while the Honda Civic was on its way to Besut from Kuala Terengganu.

"The accident is believed to have happened when the Honda Civic lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.

"The collision caused all drivers and passengers of both vehicles to suffer from injuries."

He added that all the drivers and passengers were brought to the Setiu Hospital emergency unit for further treatment.

Afandi said the police have not identified the injuries sustained by the 47-year-old Proton Persona driver and its passengers, a 39-year-old and a child aged six.

He also added that the Honda Civic driver, Muhammad Syamil Khairul Ihsam, 20, suffered a broken left femur.

"Three other passengers of the Honda Civic, Syed Muhammad Fitri Syed Ahmad Yani, Muhammad Izzat Abdul Rohim and Hafiz Azizi Harun suffered head injuries.

"The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987," he added.
