KUALA LUMPUR: The Economy Ministry is holding engagement sessions on the People's Income Initiative (IPR) to ensure that it can be carried out immediately.

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib today said the ministry had held an engagement session with the Rural and Regional Development Ministry regarding the Agro Entrepreneur Initiative (Intan) on March 30.

"The type of cooperation will be determined by the availability of land by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry for the programme."

She said this during the winding up of the Supply Bill 2023 for the ministry in the Dewan Negara.

Hanifah said heads of households from the B40 group, especially the hardcore poor, could apply on the IPR website and choose an initiative.

RM750 million has been allocated for three initiatives: Intan, Food Entrepreneur Initiative (Insan) and Services Operator Initiative (Ikhsan).

"Participants will be matched with the initiative they are interested in, the locality, and the availability of the initiative."

Hanifah said IPR aimed to increase the income of the hardcore poor and the B40 group.

"The implementation of IPR involves a collaboration between the ministry and the private sector, government-related companies and higher education institutions to tackle poverty."

IPR aims for participants to earn between RM2,000 and RM2,500 per month during a 24-month monitoring period, and then generate their own income. Bernama
