KUCHING: A senior citizen riding his motorcycle was killed after colliding with a dog near the Everwin Batu 11 supermarket, Jalan Serian / Kuching here, this morning.

In the 7am incident, the victim identified as Boon Nam Maew, 74, from Country View Estate, Batu 11, died on the spot from injuries sustained to his head and limbs.

Padawan District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said when the accident took place the victim was on his way to Serian from Kuching.

"The victim was riding his motorcycle in the left lane of the road when suddenly a dog jumped onto his path from the left side of the road shoulder.

"The victim did not have sufficient time to avoid the canine and collided with the dog," he said in a statement today.

He said as a result of the collision the victim was flung off his motorcycle.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sentosa Hospital. His body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) for further action," he said.

He said the victim's motorcycle was taken to the Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) for inspection by Puspakom.

"The police are still looking for witnesses who can help in their investigation into this case.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987," he said.
