KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has been promoted to the rank of commissioner and appointed as the new Selangor police chief.

The former Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (Intelligence/operations) deputy director took over from acting Selangor police chief Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam.

Previous state police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed retired on Jan 2.

The handover ceremony between Hussein and Sasikala was held at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here, today, witnessed by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

In his speech, Hussein called for the Selangor police contigent to work together towards a prosperous Selangor.

"To all personnel of the Selangor contigent, I wish to remind everyone to carry out their duties with the utmost sincerity and dedication so that the mission and vision of the leaders towards a prosperous Selangor can be attained," he said.

He added it was not an easy task to lead a police force in a state with more than seven million people, however he was confident that Selangor police would excel.

"I'm confident and I believe that with my experience, supported by the deputy police chief and the police rank and file, Selangor police will achieve excellence," he said.

Acryl Sani in his speech said Hussein's experience in the CID and National Disaster Management Agency would help lead Selangor police well.

He thanked previous chief Arjunaidi, who held the position on April 12, 2021.
