Johor Baru: The boy found trapped inside a shipping container in Wesport, Klang last night is not a victim of human trafficking.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed this here today.

He said the boy named Fahim was found in one of the containers brought by a ship from Bangladesh.

A police report has been lodged and an investigation is currently underway.

"When the ship arrived at Port Klang, the container was unloaded and the boy was found inside.

"He was the only one found so a police report has been lodged and the case is being investigated.

Saifuddin said the boy was also taken for a medical examination.

"He had a fever at the time."

Saifuddin said the boy would be sent home through legal channels.

"We will not say it has elements of human trafficking because the initial investigation found that he entered (the container) later, fell asleep and arrived here.

"So the authorities have begun an investigation. And they will make sure he is healthy and then begin the repatriation process," he said.

He also confirmed there was only one person in the container.

Saifuddin said this at a press conference after a working visit and chairing of the Coordination Committee on Handling Congestion at the Johor Embankment at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) here, today.

The ship was reported to have departed from a port in Bangladesh on Jan 13.

A video about the child's discovery had gone viral on social media as the child was locked in the container for about six days.

The content of the 56-second video shows the child in a weak state getting out of the container as soon as the door was opened by the authorities.

Sources reportedly said they heard knocking from inside the container.

The child is believed to have fallen asleep in the container and did not realise it was transported out of the port and into a ship.
