KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Embassy in Saudi Arabia will provide the necessary assistance in the search for Mushtafa Kamal, who has been reported missing since he left for Makkah to perform umrah a month ago.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the ministry had also instructed the embassy to closely monitor and provide updates on the whereabouts of the missing man.

He said it will work closely with the Saudi Arabian government and authorities to locate Mushtafa, a 49-year-old a religious teacher from Batu Pahat, Johor.

"Our embassy has been instructed to take the necessary actions (to locate Mushtafa).

"Since such a case involves legal matters, we need to work closely with the authorities (in Saudi)," Zambry, who is also the Barisan Nasional secretary-general and Umno Lumut division chief, said after visiting the 2022 Umno General Assembly's media centre here, today.

He also advised Malaysians who face difficulties when they were abroad to contact the Malaysian Embassy or consulate in the respective countries if they needed help.

"We have missions and officers who are always ready to provide assistance."

Mushtafa left for Makkah with his 17-year-old son, Muaz, on Dec 6 last year. They were supposed to return home from the umrah journey on Dec 18.

It was reported that Muaz noticed Musthafa went missing after he could not find his father in his hotel room on Dec 12.
