BENTONG: A trailer carrying refined sugar crashed along KM4 of the Kuala Lumpur - Karak Highway early this morning, leaving its sweet cargo strewn across the road.

District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the driver and his assistant, aged 32 and 39, respectively, suffered minor injuries.

"Preliminary checks showed that the trailer was headed to Triang with its cargo of sugar.

It is believed to have experienced a brake malfunction while going downhill.

"As a result, the driver lost control, causing the trailer to crash into the road divider," he said.

Zaiham said both the driver and his assistant tested positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being probed under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Zaiham also urged witnesses to step forward to assist the investigation.
