PASIR GUDANG: A 42-year-old Nepali worker was killed after falling from a construction scaffolding here on Monday (Jan 2).

The Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) said the victim was in the midst of dismantling the scaffolding when tragedy struck.

"The victim who was employed by a subcontractor recruited to remove the scaffolding fell from a height of 70m, sustaining serious injuries.

"He was later pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team," it said in a statement.

A stop-work order was issued immediately by DOSH to investigate the cause of the accident and parties responsible.

Those responsible are liable to face action if investigation finds any violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994 provisions.

"Employers bear the full responsibility of ensuring that their workplaces are free of all hazards by conducting risk control and assessment."

The department also said that employees should immediately alert the department in the event of workplace accidents.
