BATANG KALI: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and members of the public have been advised to steer clear of the Batang Kali landslide area due to risky conditions at the site.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said although many had expressed their wish to deliver aid to the site, the authorities would be limiting access to those who can enter the area.

He said the soil near the Father's Organic Farm campsite was still unstable and any movement could affect the ongoing search and rescue (SAR) operation.

"I am satisfied with the coordination of tasks, especially from the police as well as Fire and Rescue Department in overseeing SAR operations.

"However, it is not suitable for the public and NGOs to come now and take part in the mission.

"So we will limit the mission to the Fire and Rescue Department, which is taking the lead, and they will then decide who could assist them.

"Otherwise, it would be chaos," he told reporters following a visit to the disaster site today.

He also hoped the remaining victims would be found as soon as possible.

So far, the remains of 24 victims have been recovered.

A total of 61 victims had been rescued, while the SAR team is working to locate another nine missing victims.
