KUALA LUMPUR: New Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek wanted to make a surprise visit to her old school SK Semenyih today, but everyone at the school already knew that she would drop by.

Fadhlina tweeted that her vist brought back memories of her former teachers.

"My surprise visit has failed. The teachers there were so good at sensing my presence.

"My early education started at SK Semenyih. As the Malay proverb goes, `bagai sirih pulang ke ganggang (back to where one started)'.

"I came back with humility remembering all my teachers who have taught me," she said.

Fadhlina, who is also PKR Women chief, was appointed education minister under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's unity government last Friday.

The Nibong Tebal member of parliament started her official duty at the ministry on Monday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke also took similar approach going to the ground unannounced.

Loke wore a baseball cap and a pair of sunglass as he took a two-hour ride on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) along the Kelana Jaya line during peak hours.
