KUALA LUMPUR: The family of three who narrowly escaped a landslide at Taman Halaman in Ampang early today had reported their concerns to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) after a similar landslide struck their neighbour's house early this year.

Fortunately, all three occupants, Nur Shazeilla Aziz, her husband, Ahmad Mohar Khamis, both 39, and their 11-year-old son were uninjured in the 2.26am incident.

Speaking to Harian Metro, Nur Shazeilla said it was an incident waiting to happen as they always found mud running down the slope and causing a mess every time it rained.

"Even at the time the landslide happened, my husband was at the porch cleaning the mud residue that had gathered as a result of the continuous rain.

"I was sleeping with my son when suddenly, I heard a rumbling sound and felt the earth shaking. I grabbed my son and cried, thinking we were all going to die.

"Perhaps the rain was too heavy and caused a landslide. I looked out the window and saw that the wall behind the house had collapsed. I was speechless and felt like I couldn't feel my legs anymore," she said.

Nur Shazeilla said they have had sleepless nights ever since a similar incident struck their neighbour's house early this year.

"MPAJ officers came and looked at the slope site a few times after the first incident, but there was no action. I don't even know the reason. It's just that every time it rains, the mud flows from the back of the house.

"Each time, I feel scared. My husband doesn't even sleep, especially when it rains heavily. I didn't expect the landslide that happened early this morning," she said.

Nur Shazeilla said she would be staying at her parents' house for the time being until their house was deemed safe by the authorities.

"After the first landslide incident involving the neighbor's house, I once thought of moving. But, because this is my mother-in-law's house and it was passed down to my husband, we continued to live here.

"If it's really not safe, I have to move straight away, but if I can (stay), I have to deal with MPAJ regularly so that the same thing doesn't happen again.

"But, if you ask me now, I am really traumatised."

Earlier, the family of three faced an anxious moment when the bungalow they lived in was hit by a landslide, causing part of the back wall of the house to collapse.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said a seven-member team rushed to the location immediately after receiving an emergency call at 2.26am.
